Testimonials/

Dear Mr. Korschgen, This is Jabriel Martin, the lead trumpet from the All-City Jazz Band. I could not let you leave with out a proper thank you. You are one of the greatest jazz teachers I have ever played for. I want to thank you for the smalls things such as being understanding of trumpet players chops, for the smiles you would give our band which gave me extra motivation, and just being cool as hell. Now comes the big thank you for not only making me a better lead trumpet, but for transforming me into a great musician. Even though we were only together for a short period of time, I still learned so much from you. I want to wish you the best of luck and hope that I can shake your hand someday, later on in life.

                                                                    Thank You,

                                                      For the transformation

Mr. Korschgen has been nothing less than phenomenal in helping shape my perception of creativily and musical development!Enthusiam is the first thought that comes to mind as I reflect on the warm feeling of music Mr. Korschgen has opened to me over time. During my time at ChiArts, it truly was a blessing to sit under the tutelage of an amazing instructor, who was just as excited about the music as myself. Moreover, I'm grateful for such a push from an outstanding mentor & instructor. He's is indeed one "hip" cat!

Kevin and I have taught together for three years in the All-City music program in the Chicago Public Schools. As a colleague, his teaching style has been an inspiration to watch.Teaching at the community-college level has many unique demands, and I've learned how to be a better teacher in my experience teaching with Kevin. His teaching methods are energetic, passionate, and honest. He reads student behavior patterns, and demands excellence in the classroom. In the past ten years, I haven't met a better teacher.

Peter Carney, music faculty at Kennedy-King College

"Most educators have a concept that they not only love to teach, but are extraordinarily good at it.  Kevin's is jazz and jazz improvisation."

"I wish I was able to work with Kevin further, but during our few months directing the Chicago Public Schools' All City High School Jazz Ensemble, what I learned from him I will take with me through the rest of my teaching career."

"Watching Kevin teach jazz is like watching an artist paint."

"Kevin practices what he preaches!"  He is also an extraordinary musician."

"It is not often that you get an educator at such a high level who not only possess infinite knowledge of the subject matter, but can also pass this knowledge on to kids so well.  The kids get it too!"

Frank DeCarlo, Director of the CPS All-City Jazz Ensemble, and band director, Chicago Public Schools

This is the Chiarts (Chicago High School for the Arts Jazz combo) Honors Jazz Combo, one of the fine high school jazz combos I’ve had the privilege of instructing. As you will see from the video, they were winners in the 2012 Chicago Symphony Orchestra's Fidelity Young Artists Competition. That is the CSO that they are sharing the stage with. The vibraphonist is Joel Ross, a very special talent.
